While at the American Academy in Rome in Spring 2024, I worked with Erica Hunt on a video representation of her poem Reader. Erica had the idea to set the text as a series of readings from fellows at the academy that year. Once, Erica had the general series in mind, I set a work for solo piano around the recitation. The piano writing is a mixture of improvisations and compositional decisions informed by the pacing and structure of the poem. I perform the piano track on the video.
